Butter cookie recipeAre you craving for butter cookie? Following is an easy butter cookie recipe which can be tried at home. Since the Christmas is coming soon and also a new year is on the way, this would be a delicious addition to your party table.

"Butter Cookie", which generally has a crispy texture, is a popular biscuit originated in Denmark which is alternatively known as Butter biscuits, Brysselkex, Sablés.

The classic Danish butter cookie is packed in a tin to maintain its freshness and this packing has been considered as reasonable and reusable for storing purpose. In countries such as Europe and North America, butter cookies are frequently consumed during the Christmas period. In China butter cookies are used as a gift, especially during the Chinese New Year, which falls in January/February. The basic butter cookie has no added flavour but people around the world has tried different flavours mainly; vanilla, chocolate, coconut and strawberry to enhance its taste.

INGREDIENTS

  • Butter - 100 g (unsalted if preferred)
  • Sugar - 2.5 tablespoons (ground)
  • All-purpose flour - 240 g
  • Salt -  ¼ teaspoon
  • Vanilla - ½ teaspoon (optional)

METHOD

  • Step 1: Add salt into the soften butter and whisk.
  • Step 2: Add the ground sugar into this and whisk again.
  • Step 3: Once everything is mixed well add vanilla (this is optional).
  • Step 4: As the final ingredient add flour little by little and mix well until it becomes a soft dough.
  • Step 5: Spread the dough as a 5 mm thin layer on a tray or a flat cooking surface, cover it with a parchment paper or a plastic wrap and keep inside the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  • Step 6: Pre-heat the oven to 180 Celsius.
  • Step 7: After 30 minutes, take the tray from refrigerator and make into different desired shapes using a cookie cutter or by hand.
  • Step 8: Place the pieces on a baking tray and bake in the oven for 10 - 15 minutes unlit the cookies become yellowish golden brown colour.
  • Step 9: Once taken out from the oven let the cookies cool down. You can store those in an airtight container in the room temperature for 3 - 4 days or else inside the refrigerator for 2 weeks.
The above recipe is enough to make around 20 - 25 number of small cookies. If your requirement is different you can adjust the ingredient quantities accordingly. When adding flour to make the dough depending on the type of flour you use, it might need to add a little more/less flour to get the required consistency. Furthermore, you can adjust the sugar quantity depending on your preference of sweetness.

Before keeping the cookies on the baking tray, it is not needed to cover the base of the baking tray using a parchment paper, but if you prefer you can use. It is not advisable to grease the baking tray using butter or oil because it might cause burning the bottom of your cookies.
