Are you craving for something chocolaty? Then definitely you should try the following biscuit cake recipe which can be easily prepared at home and specially no baking is needed.
This dessert is very easy to make and no baking is needed. With the time, this had spread to many other countries and at present the common recipe has evolved into a number of variations. When looking into other desserts chocolate biscuit pudding has similarities with "Chocolate Salami", which is a traditional Portuguese dessert made with Marie biscuits, that has spread all over Europe specially in Greece, Turkey, Uruguay, Italy and Romania.
INGREDIENTS
- Sugar - 200 g (fine grain)
- Butter - 250 g
- Cocoa powder - 4 tablespoons
- Vanilla - 1 teaspoon
- Egg - 1 whole egg
- Lime/Lemon - ½ teaspoon
- Marie biscuit - 250 g
- Hot milk - 250 ml (to dip the biscuits)
- Cashew - 40 g (chopped)
- Chocolate syrup - for garnishing
METHOD
- Step 1: Add sugar and butter into a bowl and whisk/beat until it gives a creamy and a smooth texture.
- Step 2: Add the egg into this bowl and whisk together.
- Step 3: Then add cocoa powder and give it a good mix.
- Step 4: Lastly add vanilla and lime/lemon into the bowl and mix gently using a spatula.
- Step 5: Take a transparent pudding bowl or any container you prefer. Dip some Marie biscuits in hot milk and place them as the first layer (single/double) inside the container.
- Step 6: Pour the pudding mixture on the top of the Marie biscuits as the second layer, with a thickness about ½ inch and sprinkle a layer of chopped cashew on this.
- Step 7: Continue the same sequence of alternate layers and finally garnish the top with chocolate syrup.
- Step 8: Keep inside the refrigerator for 3-4 hours before serving.
This recipe can be served for 8 - 10 people. If your requirement is different you can adjust the ingredient quantities accordingly. Also, you can change the sugar and cocoa powder quantities as per your taste and preference.
To make the hot milk you can purchase fresh milk and heat or else mix some milk powder in hot water. You do not need to add sugar into this as sugar is already there in the mixture. Instead of Marie biscuits you can use any plain or milk biscuit of your choice.
I have used lime/lemon for this recipe to prevent the odour of the egg, but you can skip this if you are ok with that. Since vanilla is used there will not have a strong odour.
For garnishing you can use sliced almond, strawberry, cherry, etc as you prefer. Also you can use these as a separate layer in between to boost the taste.
